The adjustable cane has been a favorite seller of many retailers for many years.
Why do retailers like the adjustable cane?
A) 99% of adjustable canes are made from Alunimin allowing the cost and quality to be (CHEAP ) not less expensive but CHEAP
B) Easy to sell in a retail setting, because clerks, sales people do not have to cut the adjustable canes to size.
C) Most people that buy an adjustable cane from a retail location just “pick one up” thus at leased has the potential of being adjusted to the proper size.
D) Light Weight
Would I “the CaneMan” recommend an adjustable cane?
And the Answer is …. “It depends on why the adjustable cane is being used”
Two questions to ask a yourself about before purchasing an adjustable cane
A) Is it a long term or short term injury?
B) Are you putting your full weight upon the adjustable cane?
For the six week injury buff, an adjustable cane is just fine. Cheap and adjustable. When your done with it, then you can phone up your local Red Cross and ask them if you can donate the cane to there collection. The Red Cross, at leased in Calgary Alberta, helps out those of us that can not afford to buy a cane to either lease it, or have one until they can bring it back. The Red Cross, helps many of us when we need it. So , Please be kind, and if you do have any canes (meaning adjustable or not,) call them and donate your used cane to help others!
If your putting your full weight upon the adjustable cane, remember full weight. The adjustable cane 60-80% of the time becomes NON adjustable. Your weight can cause the pin in the adjustable cane to bend, also wears down the hole thus causing the adjustable cane to be “ the non adjustable cane”
Believe this or not, aluminum adjustable cane needs to be checked, just like the skin of an airplane needs to be replaced from time to time. Remember, an adjustable aluminum cane makes noise when you walk with it. That noise you are hearing is moving parts, which are wearing down each time you take a step. Many people forget about checking the adjustable aluminum canes. Which can cause you to fall. If you have one, Check it every month for wear and tear down by the pin. And when your checking for this check your tip, is it still soft? Has it worn down? If so Replace the tip ASAP. Be safe it is your health and well being at stake.
Short Term, the adjustable cane is a great help. Long Term, the adjustable cane is not your best choice.
