The Cane, more than meets the eye

Now that I have your attention, what is a cane that is not a cane?
In 1860 a hearing trumpet cane, = Hearing aid

Most of the Canes that I have written about are not for weight bearing but for balance and fun for the collecting. After 1920 it is hard to find out why the cane as a whole almost faded away. My thoughts are after the Second World War had been won, the medical profession came up with the idea of a cheep cane that could be adjusted. The alunimin cane was born, Ugly, cheap but effective. Then the attitude of the general public changed. With out seeing the stylish hand made canes, the aluminum cane has single handily brought down the stylish cane of yesteryear. All you see in the pharmacy’s are Cheap Ugly canes. However, I believe that Companies such as CanesCanada.com have opened the eyes of the general public and now that the baby boomers are growing up, we are in for a change in attitude. And its about time! To many of our seniors have been brain washed with the attitude that a cane makes them look weak. I hated it when people saw me with a cane and came up and asked: What happened to you? Not any more, people come up and state, great looking cane! Now I do not focus on the negative and it helps me get over it. Yes, it is a mental attitude adjustment. However it works for me, and I know it works for others like me. I do not need people feeling sorry for me, understanding yes, but not pity. Many have now followed my lead on the internet.
