Paper Birch, also known as Canoe or Silver Birch, is a strong part of Canada's history. Most of us will be familiar with birch bark canoes and the song "Land of the Silver Birch" (author unknown). The Aboriginals used the bark, roots and wood of birch in so many aspects of their lives. They made canoes, utensils, baskets, fishing gear and even musical instruments. Our hikers are a way for us to remember a piece of Canada's past.
