Whether you are looking for a simple "daily-use" cane or mobility aid, an elegant collectors' cane, or a unique "stick" for strutting in style, Canes Canada offers an exceptional selection in every price range.
Our fine canes and walking sticks are selected from around the world for their value and style. We give personal attention to every order you place. Most of our products are made from natural materials and there will be slight variations in wood grain, colour, and appearance. This makes each one truly unique.
While a recreational walking stick can be any length that is pleasing to the user, we recommend that a daily-use cane, which is used as a mobility (Orthopaedic) aid, should be properly sized by a health care professional.
If you do not have a therapist and wish to size a cane on your own, we suggest the following:
Remove the rubber tip from the cane. If it is tight, a squirt of WD-40 works wonders. Twist the tip off, rather than pulling.
Whether you are right-handed or left-handed, a cane used for support should be held on the opposite side from your injury or weakness. Ask your doctor or therapist for advice in this area.
Not all canes are made to support weight. Please use common sense in the selection of thin or lightweight canes. If you have any doubts in this area, please consult your doctor or therapist.
Replace worn rubber tips regularly. A smooth tip on your cane is just as dangerous on wet or slippery surfaces as are bald tires on a car!
Most people who carry a cane or walking stick use it for balance or light support and thus don't need one as heavy as they would if it had to support the majority of their weight. For instance, I enjoy carrying an attractive walking stick for balance - especially when walking on uneven or slippery surfaces. My partner, on the other hand, has had leg surgery due to an accidental fall and requires a heftier cane to safely support his weight.
Welcome to the Canes Canada Web Store Where You Can Find Great Gifts for Yourself or for Someone You Admire
A client recently told us that, although she could no longer get about without a cane, she wanted one that would draw attention to its own uniqueness, rather than one that would point to her challenge. We believe many of you feel the same way. A well-made, good-looking cane or stick can be a boost to one's self-esteem. However, a nice-looking cane is hard to find.
It takes two people to properly fit a cane. The cane user should be wearing his/her usual walking shoes and standing as naturally upright as possible. The cane-holding hand should hang at the side with a normal bend at the elbow.
The second person places the cane, with the handle on the ground, on the side where the user will be using the cane. The lower end of the shaft is marked, where it touches the bottom crease of the user's wrist (closest to the hand). The cane should then be cut at right angles, using a fine, sharp saw. (A mitre box will aid in making a straight cut.) Replace the rubber tip.
When leaning your cane on a wall, placing the handle on the floor and the rubber tip against the wall will reduce the chance of its falling over.
If you use an ice-grip on your cane, always retract it as soon as you come indoors in order to avoid damaging floors. Many people have one cane for outdoor use and another for indoor use.
Smooth, hard surfaces such as those found in malls or many public buildings are very slippery if they are wet. Also, a wet cane tip can slip on a smooth, dry surface.
The "CE" stamp of approval carried by the majority of our canes, provides the consumer with the knowledge, that they have purchased the safest, highest quality product available.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our web store.
Please come back often and bring your friends.

To allow for individual differences, you may wish to cut the cane an inch longer and check for comfort before making the final cut.
Remember, canes can be shortened but not lengthened.
A retractable ice-grip, new rubber tip, wrist strap, or other accessories may be added for your safety and convenience.
If you need a cane to support your whole weight, you may find the weight guidelines (light, standard, extra strength) that accompany some of our cane selections to be helpful.
Please remember that these are only guidelines - we don't know your specific needs. If you have any doubt as to what weight of cane you need, please seek professional advice from your physician or therapist.
